Home not Home is a unique artistic co-operation between big and small players. Intercult, Riksteatern, Swedish Travelling Exhibitions, Re:Orient and Sprong have joined together to create new frames of references on the art scene through intense women’s stories and focus on identity.
Home not Home, which is also Sweden’s contribution to the European year for cross-cultural dialogue, includes contemporary theatre with a stage adaptation of the film Head-On produced by Riksteatern, installation art with the video Restore Hope: See me! produced by Swedish Travelling Exhibitions and the forum The Room in Between, which offers discussions, audience research and seminars organized by Intercult, Re:Orient and Sprong.
Common to all activities within the co-operation frame is the will to raise existential questions from a global perspective by touching subjects such as love, identity, power or hate. The exhibition Head-On, the video-based installation Restore Hope and the forum The Room in Between will be touring several Swedish cities in autumn 2008 and will round off the tour with a visit to Turkey later on in the winter.
Mot väggen - Head-On
Riksteatern produces the performance Mot väggen directed by Dritëro Kasapi. Sibel is 20 years old and longing for life and the world. The only hindrance is her conservative family. One day she meets former rock musician Cahit, twice her age, in a hospital and she sees his Turkish background as her ticket to freedom. She convinces Cahit to marry her. All she needs is a marriage certificate and a shared dwelling...
The performance is based on the film Head-On by many-time award-winning Turkish-German director Fatih Akin.
Restore Hope: See me!
To live in hiding is to live without rights. The exhibition Restore Hope is an art project by Selda Asal, one of Turkey’s most interesting artists, produced by V. Video-based installation Restore Hope: See me! gives women forced to live in hiding a voice.
The Room in Between
To consolidate the cultural events and the cross-cultural dialogue production and resource centre Intercult, communication agency Sprong and festival and seminar organizer Re:Orient combine discussions, dialogue and audience research. All these forums together go by the name of The Room in Between.
